42,000 Sydney residents warned after COVID-19 fragments detected in wastewater

About 42,000 Sydney residents have been placed on high alert for symptoms associated with COVID-19 as Premier Gladys Berejiklian warns more locally acquired infections are likely.

NSW Health issued the alert late on Wednesday after fragments of the virus were detected in the Marrickville Sewage Network.

This catchment takes sewage from about 42,000 residents in Dulwich Hill, Marrickville, Summer Hill, Lewisham, Ashfield, Haberfield, Petersham, Lilyfield and Leichhardt.
